While some traditional education and social institutions were designed to prepare people for a world of scarcity and survival—teaching compliance, credentialing, and adaptation to external demands—others have emphasized critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth. The claim that these institutions never taught self-authorship is not universally true, but many did prioritize preparation for economic survival over the development of self-directed purpose.
If the first intelligence explosion gave us tools to survive, the second gives us the responsibility of deciding what to live for, a question that no algorithm, no matter how capable, can answer for us.
